Decision made. I ripped back all of what I made for the boys sweater from the last post. After measuring again it was nearly 50 cm wide (I didn't make a gauge swatch, because I "know" the yarn already). This would have nearly fit me!
After a little more thinking about it I decided I want to make raglan sleeves because they fit him better than drop shoulders. In such sweaters he looks a little lost, thin as he is. And I change also the needle size - 4.5 mm works better with my tight style of knitting. Good thing I wasn't too much. Things like this happen if you hastily cast on for a new project, just to have some knitting to take on public transport commuting.
I already knew my son is among the thinner kids of his age.
But I didn't know it was that extreme.
Or how odd patterns can be.
I have some balls of Schoppel Wolle Softappeal in red-anthracite sitting around for quite some time to make a sweater for my son. I had some general ideas how it should look like, but no actual pattern. Last week I thumbed through the summer 2008 issue of Bambino Stricken and found there just the right sweater, so I bought it. Yesterday I cast on for this very sweater and worked happily along until about 20 rows where finished. Then I decided to check my actual width and the pattern a little more. I chose size 8 yo (he is 7 years meanwhile and the sweater should fit a little longer).
This is, where my rant starts.
Oversized is cool and looks great on little boys. But it's easy to take things to extreme. My son's shoulder width is 25 cm, when I look at yarnstandards he "should" have about 27 cm and a chest circumference of about 67 cm. What on earth do I do with a sweater that is 84 cm wide? That is way beyond oversized, that is my-child-is-drowning-in-his-sweater-size.
So everything back where I started and see, how much I can calculate down to get a reasonable size. In my opinion it should have about 10 cm less around the chest to look good, but I'll take some more measurements tomorrow (he's sleeping now).
Hm - I just checked the Piratenpulli. This pattern even gives 88 cm around for a 5/6 year old size. I should really do some more measurements before I frog.
Last year I crocheted a cardigan for my niece. I did some miscalculation on yarn needed and then my daughter told me, how much she liked the colour. This made obvious I could not bring back the leftover but make something for her from it.
A crochet top for example.
Top / tank
This is a very quick project - one days worth of commuting (35 minutes each turn) plus one evening in kindergarten where we talked about various things and it was done.
I hade much to do computer wise. We got a new laptop without any pre-installed software. So much to do until everything is up and running again. Meanwhile I set up most of the software and am able to do what I want, but some things are still left to do. Now I'm hoping that's it for the next years.
Answer at least three of the
questions. Yes, I know a few look time-consuming and there are several
of them. That’s why I only ask for three. See? I’m nice!
Post them and the rules on your blog, and please link back to me here. Pretty please *^_^* ?
Comment here telling me and the rest of our little party where you’re at and link to yourself. That’s all!
Oh yeah, don’t forget to tag others!
What’s the last book you read that you thought was really super, inspiring, you’d recommend it to most anyone?
Seems like I read mostly trivial books over the last months - nothing really inspiring, just relaxing and having a little fun.
What food totally grosses you out, you’d never be able to touch it? Ew. Gag. *hurl*
Ox tongue - each time I see one sitting in the counter of the butcher I have a hard time not going away without doing my shopping.
Did you ever watch a scary movie
that frightened you so much you were afraid of the dark afterward? I
mean like you’re lying in bed trying to sleep, but you have to pee, but
you’re scared to get up. It doesn’t have to be recently; could be when
you were a kid. So what movie was it?
I was maybe about 10 years and it was a "Tatort" or maybe a "Derrick" - more than harmless, you'd say today.
Is there a song that makes you dance every time you hear it? Would you tap your feet and sing along to it in public?
"Hard life" from Kenny Loggins.
Tattoos: yes or no? Do you have any? Tell us! Do you think they’re gross? TELL US!
No
When’s the last time you laughed so hard your ribs ached and/or you nearly peed yourself? What made you do it?
Must be quite some time - I don't remember.
Draw or doodle a picture of your pet(s) and post it if possible. Nothing fancy, don’t be shy!
No pets (if you don't count the snails in my garden who eat all my flowers and herbs).
Go through a stack or box of your
old music. Stuff that you may not have heard in years. Pick one and
tell us about it. Is it as good (or as bad) as you remember?
The really old stuff doesn't work any more. It's vinyl and I don't have a player any more. But some of the music I still love dearly - Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights" for example. Or my collection of Queen and Tina Turner
Do you still sleep with a stuffed animal? We won’t laugh!
Nope - not since my son pinched my big bear (who still remembers IKEA's big brown nalle bear?)
As I'm notorious bad at chosing people - who want's the tag? Just leave a comment and link to your blog and feel free to answer the questions (if you like).
I'm in an eternal fight with my daughter's hair. She wants to let them grow ("down to the floor, mama") but they are so thin they withstand all ways of tying them back.
Mini-Kopftuch / Little Hairscarf
In the summer I hope for this hairscarf (and maybe more of them - depends on how it works).
You are right - I twisted the cast on and work a pseudo-Moebius. Not what I intended for a tank. Happens, when you close the round, while sitting at the coffee table with a friend and chatting. And because the stitches where rather squished I didn't see until about round 10.
Alles auf Anfang / Back where you started
But this tank conspired against me - two more attempts didn't work out either and now I'm makeing something completely different from this yarn!
